A Historic Town within reach of Vienna
The town of Korneuburg is a located on the northern banks of the river Danube, just north of Vienna. Facing Korneuburg is the similarly named town of Klosterneuburg. Korneuburg has a population of approximately 12,000 and is the district capital (Bezirkshauptstadt). Whilst this adds some importance to Korneuburg as an administrative centre, the town is essentially a wealthy suburb of Vienna.
Korneuburg - Modern Apartments
A great part of the Korneuburg leisure and business activities are centered on its proximity of the Danube River. A harbour for both cargo and tourist river boats, a marina and the aptly named Donau Park.

The “Fake” Castle
Burg Kreuzenstein - Disney Style
Just north of Korneuburg, is the castle of Burg Kreuzenstein, one of the most popular day-trip destinations for Viennese families with children. But beware: Burg Kreuzenstein is a fake! The castle was built by the Count Nepomuk Wilczek a little over a hundred years ago, in what you would today class as "Disneyland style", in accordance with the nobility's taste for tackiness and historicity.
Burg Kreuzenstein - Courtyard
The castle was used numerous times as a backdrop location for various films and TV series – here some of the latest:
- "The Pillars of the Earth" (2010 TV series)
- "Season of the Witch" (2011)
- "The Quest" (2014 TV series)
